AVIATION
THE TASMAN SERVICE. WELLINGTON, September 13. “I do not know when the air service across the Tasman will be inaugurated and I do not think anybody else knows at the present time,” said Mr. Savage, when asked to comment on the recent statement by Sir George Pearce in Australia, that there was not likely to be any service this year. “Nobody is in a position to make a statement at the moment,” said Mr. Savage. “The sooner we come to a final decision, the better it will be for all concerned, but there are many considerations, including that of the type of machine to be used. In the meantime, New Zealand has put up with the irregular arrival of the air mail from Australia, despatched hy Imperial Airways. The authorities in the Commonwealth send by the first boat, and if there is delay, they are not responsible for it. We have our minds concentrated on the job of concluding the arrangements which involve England, Australia and New Zealand, at the earliest possible moment.”
