After a fortnight's tine weather, rain set m on oanirday afternoon, ’ine e.nange was welcomed by some of the residents here wnose tanks were beginning to go dry. ini' J. isiepiiens was a visitor to Hokitika last week. Mr G. Robertson, who has been on a visit to Christchurch, has returned. Rev. Father Joyce, parish priest oi Ross, was a visitor here on Sunday morning. Miss O’Donnell, of Christchurch, who has bepn on a visit to Evans Creek, has returned. Miss E. Kirby is on a visit to Hokitika.
Mr Courtney, of Greymouth, is at present on the Flat. A party of school pupils from Ross visited here on Saturday afternoon, 'rne girls from the northern township played the local girls at basketball. The game resulted in a win by the home team by Sto 6. At football, the Ross boys put it all over the local boys, beating them by 31 to nil. Tne visitors were entertained in the local hall bv the ladies with afternoon tea. Later on, the party returned to Ross, well satisfied with the day’s outing. Mr P. J. McLean paid a visit here and to Wataroa at the week-end to inspect the works of the Westland County Council. One of the southern members, he takes an interest in the riding. Mr J. J. McKay has left on a health trip to Hanmer Springs. The annual ball of the Rover Football Club took place here on Saturday night, but adverse weather prevented the gathering proving of any financial advantage Io the club, which will lose about £5 on the venture. Quite a number from Hokitika attended. The Victorian Dance Band provided the music, while Mr R. Buckland had charge of the floor.
