WAIUTA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) The many friends of Mr Horace Moore will regret to hear of his death, which took place with tragic suddenness at Runanga on Sunday last. The late Mr Moore resided here for a number of years. The sympathy of the community is extended to the widow and family. Mr F. Cooper, who is undergoing treatment at the Reefton Hospital, is making good progress. Mrs Earle (junior) Greyrnouth, is spending a few days here as the guest of Mrs T. Malloy. Mr W. Brucegirdle, Railway Department (Wellington), is visiting his mothMessrs Cameron, Hunter and Evans, mining cadets, have returned to Dunedm to resume their studies at Otago University. The Blackwater South Company have suspended mining operations for a time. The official opening of the public tennis court is to take place on Sunday afternoon next at 3 p.m. Afternoon tea is being provided by the club, and a hearty invitation is extended to all residents of Waiuta to be present at the opening ceremony.

Owing to wet weather last week-end. all cricket and tennis fixtures had to be abandoned. I have been asked by the officials of tho Public Tennis Club to state that the membership of the Club is open to all residents of Waiuta, with the exception of the members of the present tennis club. If some of the local critics were to find out the facts before making statements, they would save a good? deal of bother. The object of the Club is to construct another court, and then, when this is accomplished, there will be no restriction whatever to membership. Th local school has just been painted by the Education Board painters. The Blackwater sports are to be held on Easter Saturday, and a good programme is arranged. Local interest will be centred in the Miners’ Chop, for which event there are several in train ing here, including “Windbag,” “Silver Link,” and “Coolie.” “Coolie”, is an ex-champion chopper from Buugarec.
