DOMINION NEWS.

WELLINGTON MAYORALTY. WELLINGTON. Feb. 25. A three-cornered contest for the mayoralty is to be avoided, as correspond ence between Mr Troup, the recently announced Civic League candidate, and the present Mayor, has cleared their position, showing it was the result of a misunderstanding. Mr Troup thought Mr Norwood was not going to stand, lie wrote offering to stand down in Mr Norwood’s favour. Nir Norwood did not wish to stand, but he took the Civic League’s hurried actions as a slight on the dignity of his office. Mr Norwood now announces that owing to business and personal interests, he is definitely not contesting, but would stand down in favour of Mr Troup.
