AMUSEMENTS.
“ELIZA COMES TO STAY.” When Eliza came to stay at the London flat of the Hon. Sandy Verall, many startling events happened, and happened quickly, and the why and the wherefore of their happening will be explained to-night at the Opera House by Jo soph Cunningham’s New London Comedy Company in its presentation of H. V. Esmond’s delightful three-act farce "Eliza Comes to Stay.” Well staged and acted by a company every member of which is an artist, there is not a dull moment in the play, and from beginning to end the audience is kept in a perpetual chuckle. The whole of tUe action takes place in the breakfast room of the flat of the TTon. Sandy VeraU. an irrepressible young sprig of nobility, who imagines himself in love w T iTh Vera Lawrence an actress. To Sandy comes a letter from Major Van Dam, who once saved Sandy’s life at the risk of his own, asking him to cherish his only daughter Eliza. Under the circumstances, Sandy cannot refuse the request. “THE SPORT OF KINGS.” "The Sport of Kings” a comedy from the pen of lan Hay. will be staged at the Opera House to-morrow. The play at times turns to broad comedy, is most diverting and laughter rings loud and long through the theatre. It is indeed (says the Dunedin Star) many a day since an audience received a play with such wholesome laughter. The comedy is skilfully constructed, the dialogue (dever and the plot well defined, and all ends happily.
