(Reed. Feb. 2,7 at 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 26.
The New Zealand Labourite M.P., Mr Bartram, criticises the slums of Britain. He saj’s that British furniture dates from the year one. He resents the custom of tipping, but admits that the servants are attentive. A servant girl in New Zealand, however, with her apron off, iiiay, he says, be a popular lady among learned people.
Mr Bartram (who is M.P. for Grey Lynn, Auckland), was presented to their Majesties, who visited the Industries Fair and inspected the Overseas Buyers Club, and Australian and New Zealand displays. The King was delighted to learn that as a consequence of his last year’s interest in the question, the sale of British typewriters was booming. The Queen bought the King a cigarette cabinet.
