AGAINST N.Z. BUTTER.

AUSTRALIAN DUTY. MELBOURNE, Feb. 21. A report presented by the Council of the Co-operative Butter and Cheese Factories’ Association states that the gain to farmers of Australia from the, Paterson stabilisation plan has been about two million sterling. After paying a bounty of threepence per pound on all butter exported the Committee had sufficient balance in hand to make a rebate to manufacturers of seven-six-teenths pence per pound on butter,, which will amount to £420,000.

The Council agreed, it is imperative that the duty on New Zealand butter be increased to sixpence a pound, and sixpence per pound on cheese, with a corresponding increase under the general tariff.
