LOCAL GOVERNMENT. SYDNEY, Feb. 18. The Legislative Assembly read a first time the local. Government Act Amendment Bill, which provides an extension of franchise in municipal elections to all adults, and the exemption of church lands from taxes, except when held for investment purposes. BUILDERS’ STRIKE. BRISBANE, Feb. 18. Replying to a deputation from the Trade and Labour Council, which asked him to restore sustenance to the unemployed unionists, the Premier said that the Government definitely "refused sustenance to any worker con inected with the forty hours’ week [strike in the building trade. He addel (that the strikers apparently expected Government to continue the strike, by feeding the people who caused it.
