EXPLOSION AT BALFOUR GORE, Feb. 18. David Hughes received a shattered hand and head injuries, and suffered other wounds, through the explosion cf gelignite which he was using to mine lignite at Balfour yesterday. Hughes later had a. hand amputated at the Gore Hospital, and was sent to Invercargill for treatment of his damaged eye.
