MELBOURNE v. TARANAKI. GAME INCONCLUSIVE. NEW PLYMOUTH, February 20. The match between the Melbourne touring team and Taranaki was continued in good -weather yesterday, and ended in a draw. To Taranaki’s first innings score of 259, Melbourne replied with 250, the feature of which was Woods’s score of 75, made in less than half an hour. It included eight sixes, five of which were in succession, and five boundaries. Taranaki’s second strike began disastrously, four wickets falling for 19 runs, but the score was carried to 132 for nine -wickets when the innings was declared closed. Melbourne had only twenty minutes play left, losing two wickets cheaply stumps were drawn. Tn the grade cricket yesterday, playing for Hawthorn-East Melbourne against Richmond, Millar made 101. For University against Carlton, King made 123 not out. NORTHERN CLUBS v. SOUTHERN. YESTERDAYSS MATCH. A team representing the clubs of Westland arrived hero by motor yesterday and played a team representing the clubs of the district at the Recreation Ground. The home team won by an innings and 12 runs. The visitors made 101 and 112, and though defeated, they put up on the whole a good display. For the winners, Mclntosh, Thomson, Barlow and Nightingale batted well, while C. Dewar and Fass secured the best averages with the ball.
