WAITARA SITTING CONCLUDED. NEW PLYMOUTH, February .17. The Commission inquiring into the petitions qf the natives with regard to the alleged wrongful .mnfise’ation of na tive lands after the Maori War, concluded its sitting at Waitara toddy. It will resume at Wellington on WedncsFurther evidence was given by the natives to-day regarding the alleged plundering of Parihaka village by British soldiers when Tewhiti was arrested. They said that the soldiers pulled the houses down, ruined crops and carried away' valuable goods, and cattle, and I outraged the native women. Evidence was also hearu on a number of private petitions, while it. was also alleged that the Government had not kept its promise to give land to the natives on their return fro mexile on the Chathams. It was said tjiat little him l was given, and a number of the Maori were still landless.
