HARI HARI NOTES.

(Our Own .Correspondent.)

After close on a fortnight’s bright sunshine and only a few hours rain m between, this flat was favoured with a heavy downpour on Thursday afternoon which most of the settlers gladly welcomed.

The lambs in South Westland must be getting about thinned, out by this time, yet lorries continue transporting them night aud day. In fact they are mostly working at night, on account of the very hot weather.

The Committee of the Public Hall intends holding an Art Union to provide funds to make a start with the new hall which is at the present time being erected. Mrs D. Graham, wife of the contractor for the new hall, dug the hole and put in the first pile. The tourist season is still in full swing and many cars and busses can be seen daily carrying the travellers to the Glaciers.

Mr. . T. Parry, of the Central Dairy Coy., of Hokitika, is at present on the Flat, but is not seeking supplies of but-ter-fat this time. He has a side line at present —putting down tanks for bowser pumps. Three of those are being put if on Wednesday everything put under the. hammer sold well, and especially a few fat lambs.

At last a start is being macle with the nineteen chains of road to connect up Haddock Road with Robertson Road. Mr. Chas. Donovan and Mr. R. Ritchie passed through here this week with a large mob of very prime bullocks and and heifers to be sold at the Arahura saleyards on Monday next. About twenty fat wethers put up al the sale here were purchased by a well known local seftler. The buyer- remarked “I am not going to give the butcher ST a lb. when you can buy it at the rate of 4d. per lb with the skin to put aside for discount.
