OLYMPIC GAMES. SUBSIDY SOUGHT. LONDON, February 16. ‘ f L think that a good ease can be made out for asking the Government financially to support our athletes in these international competitions, on the ground that sports benefit every class of the community and contribute towards the peace and harmony of nations,/ ’ declared Lord Rochdale, at a meeting of the British Olympic Association. &20,000 is needed to send five hundred sportsmen to Amsterdam. NAPIER MEETING. NAPIER, Feb. 17. At the athletic sports meeting at Napier, J. Fleming, the New Zealand quarter mile champion, won the 440 yards invitation race easily in 53 3-5 secs. He found the handicaps too great in the 100 yards and 300 yards which were won by B. Grenside, the Hawke’s Bay rep. footballer. Miss Manttan, New Zealand Ladies Champion, won the 120 yards in 14 4-5 secs. A Napier team beat a Wellington ladies’ team in the 440 yards relay race in 52 1-5 secs. I
