CORNWELL CUP. CHRIiS ICHURC, February 17. Cornwall Cup:—Seventh 1 Christchurch 1, Otago 2, Southland 3 Lyttelton, in Hie Gadfly crossed the line first, but were disqualified i'oi fouling Southland. AUCKLAND WINS TROPHY. CHRISTCHURCH, February 17. ’ Auckland won the Cornwell Cup this afternoon, the Lyttelton crew being second and Christchurch third in the seventh race of the series. The Gadfly, sailed by Lyttelton, again crossed the line first, with a lead of nearly four minutes, but the Lyttelton crew, which sailed the boat, were disqualified for fouling. At the conclusion of this race, the Gadfly, which had proved such a disturbing factor in the series, was disqualified from further competition, the reason being that it was considered that the Gadfly was lighter than the Standard One design Takapuna Punt. The result of the seventh race was: Christchurch 1, Otago 2, Southland 3, Auckland 4, Wellington 5. In the eighth race, the Auckland crew (McGregor and McMasters) secured their third win, thereby taking the Cup for 1927. Christchurch, with two wins, were next in order. Auckland sailed their own boat, the Winsome, and Christchurch had the fast Lyttelton boat Kai Iwi. Auckland won by three minutes, and Lyttelton just outsailed Christchurch. The placings were: Auckland 1, Lyttelton 2, Christchurch 3, Hawke’s Bay 4. Southland, Otago and Wellington did not finish.
