HOKITIKA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) A number of Canterbury farmers made a tour of inspection recently oi several blocks of land in the KokatahiKoiterangi districts. They were very favourably impressed with the possibilities of the district, and commented ok the prolific growth on the pastures visited, and on the fine condition of the stock, especially the dairy herds. As a -result of their enquiries it is understood that one or more properties will change hands.

The weather conditions proved favour j able for the gala event in aid of the building fund of All Saints Church and judging by the large attendance the funds should be largely augmented. Mr. A. Aitken, of Christchurch, and formerly of this town, arrived by the express on Tuesday and is the guest of Mr. D. Stevenson, Hall Street. The swimming carnival held in the local baths- on Tuesday night was at-[ tended by about 800 people. The various events were evenly contested. The juve|niles present appeared to appreciate the humorous novelty events provided by the organisers. Their ringing laughter could be heard several blocks away. Over £32 was taken in shillings and six fences. The Municipal Band played a number of selections prior to the sports; which commenced promptly, and were run off very smartly, there not being a dull moment. There were many novel items, and much fun was caused. In ans brief interval, the 'bath, was filled with young people, diving and swimming making a very attractive picture. Mr R. Lynn and his assistants had the ar rangements well in hand and evefits moved off rapidly and smoothly. Re suits:—-
