SANDERS CUP. WON BY THE BETTY. CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. 16. To-day the fifth race for tin- Sanders Cup resulted: — Betty 1 Rona . . ■■ ■ ■ 2 Avalon J The Betty thus wins the Cup. CORNWELL CUP. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 16. The Otago crew in the Gadfly won the fifth Cornwell Cup race this morning. Auckland (Winsome) was second, five ami a half minutes behind. CHRISTCHURCH, February 16. The presence of the. Gadfly, the Christchurch boat, in the fleet contesting the Cromwell Cup Jias reduced the contest to something like an absurdity. In the changing round of the crews ami boats, the boys lucky enough to draw the Gadfly seem assured of a win. The boat won two more races today. It has won in all six races to date, with the exception of one occasion, when it crossed the line first, but was disqualified for fouling a buoy. The result of the fifth race to-day was: Otago 1, Auckland 2, Hawke’s Bay 3, Lyttelton 4, Southland ,5, Web jington 6. Otago won by 5 min§. 40
Sixth Race. —Christchurch 1, Lyttelton 2, Auckland 3, Otago 4, Welling-
The seventh race started at 4.15 this afternoon, but was called off at the expiration of the time limit, the wind having failed. The race will be resailed in the morning. Lyttelton has drawn the Gadfly.
The Executive decided to-day that, if the second round is commenced tomorrow, the Gadfly will not be used.
