WANGANUI MEETING. Scratchings ior the Wanganui J.L. Meeting.—The Lamb (’J a.m.) tor the Stewards’ Handicap, and Mireusirtita (11.30) for the Flying Handicap. GENERAL NOTES. E. C. McDermott ’s team has been strengthened by the inclusion of the trotter, Nourmahal. Count Cavour did not put liis nsuui finishing dash into his races at Wingaii.i, and it is probable that the strenuous galloping lie Ims had since Christmas was a contributory factor. He is now to have a good rest from active commission. Rapier Ims thrown off all effects of the slight injury he received at Dunedin and will most: likely take his place in the field for the Craven. Plate io liiecarton on Saturday next. Nincompoop stayed on well in his •.■aces at Dunedin, ami his presence in till Craven Plate at Riccarton on Satin duv next will add interest to the contest.
The engagement fulliTled by the English mare, Glentruin, in the Hazlett Memorial Plate at Dunedin on Saturday, definitely terminated her racing career, and she w; s left at AVi:igC'-:r by r 11. Gillett. She will be turiwd out ,i,i 1 er owner’s place at Invercargill, and will b'3 put to the stud next sea-
son. A stallion has rot yet been selected kr her. With her spleii lid rei-oo' weii-l'nown to followers of th? spirt throughout New Zealand, her career in the role of matron will be followed with wide interest.
In reply to a question put to F. D. Jones a few days ago, the Riccarton trainer said that his plans for the autumn had not yet taken definite shape. Everything will depend on how Limerick progresses in his preparation. So far the Limoml gelding has gone on
all right. His injured foot, which in-
terfered with his spring prospects in Australia, is mending fast and Joneiis confident that there will be no recurrence of the trouble. While waiting for the hoof to grow down, however. Jones has had to be easy on his charge. Limerick lias been in work for some time, but his tasks have been very light. He will now be sent along faster and his trainer is hopeful of having the crack three-year-old at his best by Easter. Mr. H. A. Knight, the owner of Limerick, is keen on the Sydney trip, being anxious to take on Rampion again in the St. Lcger. Pro vidcd everything goes well with Limerick, it thus seems probable that he will be at Randwick for the Australian Jockey Club’s autumn meeting. If Limerick makes the trip it is probable that Battlement will accompany him. The Martian three-year-old showed good form at Randwick in the spring, win ning two valuable stakes, so it looks good business to take him back to lace in the autumn on the same course. In the event of the trip being decided on. Jones may first run Battlement in the New Zealand St. Leger, a race in which Limerick is not engaged, leaving for Sydney next day. This programme would land the Riccarton three-year olds at Randwick more than three weeks before the opening of the Australian Jockey Club’s meeting. The stallion Balboa, who has been al rhe stud in the South Island for some years past, has been sold to a Souu Australian breeder, and 1"' nia\ bo ae. corded more extended distinguish himsclt’ in Iris new - o * ll ' than came to him in the land of his birth. Got by Varco (a son of Marco) from Nerve (a daughter of Birken head), Balboa can boast of a stour pedigree, and it can also be stated his credit that in his racing days ho was a well-tested stayer.
