At the annual conference of the Fede ration of New Zealand Master Plumb ers’ to-day, Mr. Kyle (President) ex pressed regret that their trade seemed gradually getting into a more decadentstate. ‘‘We have few opportunities men of abilitly to build up businesses owing to the ease in which competition is created by men, with only a kifr of tools, once they were registered being aUowed ’to 1 take out permits to do work. ;f‘He trusted that the incoming presided*, being resident in Wellington, and the .executive would be able to devote a-little time in the endeavour to combat this grave menace to trade. He suggested that an executive exert the utmost efforts in seeking legislation to protect the trade in connection with ap prentices, universal by-laws, issuing o permits, and journeymen doing work onSundays and holidays.
