SPORT IN BULLER.
(By “ iSastuiuf. ”) Courting Disaster. A very regrettable feature of cycle racing jn Westport is daily becoming more apparent, and if the practice is not stopped, then sooner or later disaster will follow in its wake and someone will be badly injured in the inevitable smash. L refer to the practice of riders looking behind them in a endeavour to locate some fellow competitor. The practice is a distinct unfringeinent of cycle racing rules and wliy the controlling bodies have not stepped in soon er to abate the nuisance is the cause of some very caustic comment. The worst offender is undoubtedly the crack cyclist, Hulquist. and whether it is getting a habit with him or perhaps a little “gallery stunt 5 ’ the tact remains he is getting all to frequent. An offender and the referee appointed by the various Associations will effect the desired improvement were he to call llultquist to stand by and get a view of the race. While giving Hultquist credit for his very brilliant performances and all he has done to foster cycle racing in Westport, he must be brought to rea lise the fact that he is duty bound to set a better example to younger riders and further it will be to his own advan-
tage to quit the practice. The Rugby Season
In conversation with the President o 1 the Rugby Union (Mr. J. /Bradley) “Sasaiiof” was informed that as th«coming season will include a larger num ber of representative games than in previous years, ami it will be necessary to kick off the season bright and early. The Rugby Union officials would be pleased if Secretaries of affiliated Clubs would get to work and arrange for the annual meetings so that delegates may be appointed for an early meeting of the Union. The prospects for the season look bright ami with the marked improvement shown by junior players towards the close, of lasH year good senior football should be witnessed. The Triple Victory.
Although the wonderful green in Westport has made the place famous lor bowls, our own bowlers thejnselves made history in the recent West Coast bowling tourney at Kunanga when they annexed the Championship in rinks, pairs and singles—truly a very meritorious performance and one of which the players concerned and also the town and Club should be justly proud of. The winning rink in the chain pionship was shipped by the prince of bowlers, Fred Blaxall who in conjuuc tion with Harry Levy also annexed the pairs. Harrison won the singles for the Club and received a. good reception. Members speak in glowing terms'of the treatment and hospitality extended to
