U.S.A. CONGRESS.
ROWDY SCENE. WASHINGTON, Feb. 12. The bitter feeling among members in the same party over the controversial legislation, resulted in fist fights on both the. House and Senate, and considerable disturbance, which subsided only after some difficulty. Senator Wheeler, rising to a point of personal privilege, demanded that he be heard on the Banking Bill, which the Senate was then considering. Senator Glass objected, and Wheeler affirmed that Glass had promised him the opportunity to speak. He charged Glass with having broken his word. Glass said: “You lie.’’ Both thereupon lunged, at each other and in a moment the Senate was the scene of hubbub, several minutes elapsing, before the pair were separated. In the House of Representatives, Mr Tincher and Mr Strong also hurled the word “Lie’’ at each other. Mrs Tincher told her husband.that she overheard Strong criticising his attitude on the pending agricultural legislation, and when the latter denied this Tincher applied the epithet. The men sprang at each other till Speaker Longworth and other Representatives forced them apart. * j ,
