The it€m takes its place amongst the miscellaneous estimates, which total as compared with, £901,921 last year, a decrease of no less a sum than .£441---973. A sum of £35,000 is provided for in the new estimates for international exhibitions. Last year £54,---250 was set apart for this purpose. As was the case last year, £10,000 is to be taken for "Government hospitality."

Th Blenheim paper states: — "With regard to the discovery of a human skeleton on Mr. A. Maule's property in the Rai, Mr. C. Leov informs the "Pelorus Guardian" that about 20 years ago a man named Ne^vall disappeared, and though his wife spent six months in instigating a search for him he was never found.; Also, about twelve years ago a man named Peterson disappeared. He was employed by Mr. W. Jones, bush contractor for Brownlee and Co., and was camped right under the hill where the skeleton was found. ; It is suggested that the remains are very probaolv those of Peterson, who knocked of. work on a Saturday and i iever returned for his wages.
