CORONATION'S COST
In further estimates of expenditure for the new financial year just issued by the Treasury, a sum of £16*5,000 is set apart for the Coronation of the King. Expenditure in addition to this sum, it is explained, will be incurred by various Government Departments and defrayed from their ordinary yotes. The it€m takes its place amongst the miscellaneous estimates, which total as compared with, £901,921 last year, a decrease of no less a sum than .£441---973. A sum of £35,000 is provided for in the new estimates for international exhibitions. Last year £54,---250 was set apart for this purpose. As was the case last year, £10,000 is to be taken for "Government hospitality."
Th Blenheim paper states: — "With regard to the discovery of a human skeleton on Mr. A. Maule's property in the Rai, Mr. C. Leov informs the "Pelorus Guardian" that about 20 years ago a man named Ne^vall disappeared, and though his wife spent six months in instigating a search for him he was never found.; Also, about twelve years ago a man named Peterson disappeared. He was employed by Mr. W. Jones, bush contractor for Brownlee and Co., and was camped right under the hill where the skeleton was found. ; It is suggested that the remains are very probaolv those of Peterson, who knocked of. work on a Saturday and i iever returned for his wages.
