A DWELLING BURNT.
(By Telegraph— Per Press Association) WESTPORT, April 26. A fire yesterday, destroyed a recent* ly erected five-roomed house, occupied by N. S. Jordan, in Westport. Insurances are in .the State Fire Office on the building-, and ,£l5O in the Commercial Union, on the furniture.
It is related of a Wellington City Council candidat that on a recent evening: he went out to a 'suburban district to address the electors. Next day he met a friend, who asked how he had fared. "Well," replied the candidate, "I arrived at the schoolhouse, where my meeting: was to have been held, at five minutes to eight, and found no one to meet me. At eigftt o'clock' I started to rjng the bell, I continued to ring- the bell for ten minutes. As no one had appeared at the end of that time, I came home."
