GOVERNMENT BRICKWORKS

SOCiALISTxC POLICY. li}> .Ueciric 1 eletfrayJi— Cbyyngliij (Reed 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 24. Mr Griffiths,, Minister of Works, officially stated regarding the Government brick works at Home Bush Bay, that the Government's policy was to enable the people to obtain things necessary to their welfare at reasonable rates.. If the price of bricks in Sydney was. not brought down within reasonable proportions then Government would go further than making bricks for its own use as they would undertake to supply the general public at a reasonable price. Government had the necessary respect for private enterprise, but when private enterprise 'becomes public spoilation then it was time for the Government to consider the interests of the people despoiled by preparing to largely extend their plant so as to produce all the tricks required. The Government superintendent of works stated that he was able to -supply bricks at twenty shillings' per thousand.
