GOLDEN WEDDING

We have the pleasant duty to record the golden wedding- of Mr and Mrs William Herbert Perkins which will be celebrated to-day. The worthy couple have lived in Greymouth since the early days and < have always been held in the highest respect and esteem by all sections of the community. Mr Perkins was born in Manchester and arrived in Dunedin in 1860 by the "Great Britain," of which the late Dr. C. L. Morice acted as surgeon. In 1865 Mr Perkins came to the West Ooast and started business in Ross and Hokitika. In 1874 he removed to Greymouth and has since carried on a very successful business. Mrs Perkins arrived at Port Chalmers by the ship "Mooltan" on Christmas Day 1849. She was deeply grieved by the death of her father on the journey out. Mr and Mrs Perkins have lived a very happy married life, and have had the pleasure and comfort of seeing their' children occupying important positions. The eldest daughter, Sarah, was for manyi years a school teacher under the Westland Education Board and in 1885 married and settled with her husband on the land in Southland. The eldest son, Herbert, gained one of the first scholarships under the Education Board. He attended the Dunedin High School and afterwards joined the National Bank in 1881. He is now accountant in the Bank at Christchurch. The second son, Edward, was dux of the Grey High School in 1879---1880. He was the winner of the first Watkin's medal in Greymouth. He been a member of the Borough Council for two years, and has occupied the head office of several friendly societies. At present he is- in Greymouth as a printer. The second daughter Adah is wellknown in musical cricles and. has successfully staged the opera "Geisha" and the '*Gipsy Extravaganza," and has assisted every musical movement in the town. The youngest daughter Lily has of late years assisted her father in his profession and his very popular. All the members of the family were present to do honour to the occasion, and the worthy courjle will have the b^st wishes of their numerous friends for many^years of happiness .and prosperity. ■ ' r -' x - • ;.
