April 22. l'ne ilouse of Representatives adopted the Reciprocity Bill by 265 to i~he Republican majority voted aguinst the L'ill wifth ten Democrats. The Republicans bitterly fought in strives to*" pass amendments. Finally the " Republicans moved that the whole of the former's free list which the Democrats were pledged to carry but later were defejated on their pro posals, explaining that they would pass them when the free list was fortnaiiy before the House. ihe Democratic leader, Mr Underwood,, declfared that the free list would -L'ecome \la\v, otherwise the- Pre siaent of the Senate who rejected it would never be heard from again.
