The Petone which has taken on boara lb'o,ooo feet of white pine at Nytiia .-bjay will complete loading at Greymouth for Sydney. 'ike Ennerdale which left Lyttelton on Saturday night for Greymouth to load timber for Melbourne, will on the return trip, to New Zealand bring timber from TasmaniJa. in© .Blackball Coal Company's coiner Ngahere last week underwent her annujal overhaul at Wellington. it is reported that the steamer Mortlake, of the Watts Line, London which visited New Zealand about two years !ago, has been sold to Japanese buyers. The Norwegian barque Hjordis, whicn left Lyttelton on April 6 for VVestbort, has been chartered to load coal at the West Coast port for SoutE sc!a Islands. She will then proceed to Surprise Island to load phosphates tor New Zealand. The barque Mataura, )also owned in Norway, will load a similar freight at Seychelles isianu tor these waters.. v^api»ain Fredriksen, late of the Nor wegian barque Hjordis, died in a private hospital in Dunedin on Tues day evening Isays an exekhnge.) The barque arrived from Norway on February 21. Her master then appeared in very feeble health, and in a lew days retired into a hospital, and since then, owing to some serious internal trouble, gradually sank. Captain Fredriksen received from his medical attendants, nurses and the Lonsui for Norway IMr Leslie R. Wilson) every attention and care; also }a few personal friends took a kind ly interest in 'him during his illness. Captain Fredriksen was just in his prime, being about thirty-six years, or age. He was a man of gentle and refined feelings., Much sympathy will be felt for his young wife and boy of six years. Mrs Fredriksen generally accompanied her husband, Gut fhis last voyage rem|ained at tneir home in Christianssand. The Hjordis left Dunedin on March 10 for LytteTton, and is now at Westport, under The command of her late chief officer, Captain Oswald Tobiasen.
