THE WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP
DONALDSON BEATS HOLWAY
BENDIGO, April 13
J. Donaldson, of Victoria, (challenger) yesterday regained the sprint championship of the world by defeating- C. E. Hoi way, of America (holder) by three yards in a hundred, run in lOsec.
■ Before the race Holway had great confidence in his ability to beat Donaldson over 100 yds, and expressed his opinion that he would lead Donaldson from end to end. The result must have come as a surprise to him., especially as he was beaten by three yards. Three yards outside evens, is not the form that Holway showed in New Zealand, and is far from what he is capable of. This is the first race for the world's championship since Holway defeated Donaldson for the title over 130 yds at Ppntypridd, Wales, last year. Previous to that both Donaldson and Postle had beaten .Holway over 100 yds at Johannesburg. For tlie race on Wednesday, Holway was to. receive .£IOO, win or lose, a third of the "gate" in excess of ;£3OO, and there was also £100 on the side. In addition Holway is guaranteed for a second match, which will probably take place in Western Australia, and ,£SO for a third match, which it is stipulated shall be run in England on or before August 31st next. Holway, who is known as "The Bullet," probably on account of the way he leaves the gun, stands 6ft, weighs T2s 121 b, and has a stride of Bft Bih. Donaldson, the "Blue Streak," has a stride of 7ft lOin. Both men are 25 years of age. '
