CHRISTCHURCH, April 20. The Trades Conference this morn-

'<»■ received a .telegram 1 jfrom the Miners Federation stating that it was impossible to hold a conference at present to discuss the question of amalgamation. General regret was expressed t/y the delegates at the fail ure in the attempt to unite the two sections of labour and many speakers urged 'that further efforts be made.

The Conference discussed at length the proposal that a plebescite of members of two divisions be taken on the question of amalgamation.
