A FATAL FRACAS..

CHARGED -WITH MANSLAUGHTER.

GISBOBNE,. April 14,

On Saturday night last a fracas occurred in Gladstone road, (between two men as a result, it is stated, of a dispute over some money. As an outcome, one of the men, James J. Blanch, an elderly man, fell or was knocked down heavily to the ground, his head striking the metalled roadway with great force. He was removed to the hospital in an unconscious condition and never properly regained sensibility, and despite an operation, died last evening at the institution. A man named James Kerr Easton, in the employ of the Telegraph Department was arrested in the first place, and released on bail, on a charge of assault and causing actual bodily harm. \ On the death of Blanch, Easton was rearrested,- and now will have ito stand his trial on a graver charge; The acting Coroner to-day held an inquest on the body of deceased, and verdict was rteurned "that deceased/met his death as the result of injuries caused as the result of a push or blow from . Easton." Accused will appear at the Magistrate's" Court on n charge of manslaughter.
