YOUNG GIRL DROWNED. A SAD OCCURRENCE. (By Telegraph — Per Press Association) DUNEDIN. April 15. Ellen Mary Cullinan, aged 15 years, and her brother William Cullinan, aged 13 years, left the home of the stepfather Charles B. Miller, and journeyed to the Kaik in the Maheno. After arrival, the Cullinan's went along- to Kaik jetty to fish. It is surmised ithac after angling- off the jetty for some time, the boy and girl proceeded round the rocks to continue their fishing- and got 'blocked in an inlet iby the incoming- tide and that, in trying- to climb round the rocks to again get into a safe position, the girJ slipned and struck her head on a rock" and then fell into the water. Her brother dived in ten save' her and caught hold of his sister but himself got into difficulties. A Maori boy dived in, bringing him out after some time.. William was brought round :by artificial respiration. The body of his siister was brought to the surface by one of the crew of. a ding-hy. Deceased was- taken on board the M.oIt^no wh n r.^ artificial respiration was continued for over two hours unvailingly. . .
