£3,000,000 FROM £16,000.

Mr C. A. Alters, oi the Exhibitions U ranch of the iioard of Trade, who Weia me British Commissioner i"jr the Centenary Exhibitions of the A.rgentne Republic at Buenos Aires iast summer, has just returned with very favourable reports of the good which has accrued to British trade from the exhibitions. An expenditure of £16,200 on the British exhibits has resulted in orders for the ritish firms represented of ,£3,000.,---000. Seeing- that British exports to the Argentine are over £18,000,000 annuaiiy, or nearly equal to those of ail. the rest of the world, the importance, of organisation and attention to us development are clear. Mr Akers I on Thursday said:' "One of the main points made obvious by the exhibitions is that when all the British community pull 'together with '.organisation and co-ordination British tirms can compete with those of Germany and the United States and all the rest of the world and beat them. The 'great lesson of working together has been enforced. "The British Legation at. Buenos Aires is now the centre of the British pditmmercial world in tie Argentine, and a British Chamber of Commerce is "'going- to be founded there. The Government grant for these exhibitions was £14,500, and we collected another £4,200 from various sources, and our total expenses, including even those of demolishing some of the section at the end, were £16,---200. It has been a very bad year in the Argentine on account of droughts, so that an. actual gain may not ibe shown by the year's figures, but the stimulus to British trade has 'been immense.N "Many new British firms were attracted to the country by the exhibitions, started new branches, there, op-cr.-d "."> fresh outlets for their goods, and did well. The British exhibits, in finish, compelteness and appearance, certainly equalled those of any other country."
