(By Telegraph — Per Press Association) The Hon. R. McKenzie, who was banquetted by settlers of Pongaroa on Tuesday evening-,, .after a day's drive over the suggested PongaroaMasterton railway. A deputation waited upon the Minister to-night and urged the deviation of the Rimutaki railway, and the construction of a line ibetween Mas- ; terton and Waipakurau. Mr McKenzie stated that a railway was already constructed over Rimutaka, and he was of opinion that a deviation was a .matter for the consideration of the Minister for railways. So far as a railway between Masterton and Waipukurau was con- . cerned, he stated that the country was held in too large areas, and there was too little population to •warrant proceeding with a railway at" present. . . ' The Minister leaves for Wellington to-morrow morning. - . .
