PRISONER ESCAPES
INVEiRiCARGILL, April 11. A prisoner named Joseph Christie, 17 years of age, who was recently sentenced to a term of imprisonment <by the Supreme Court in. .Dunedin, for breaking and entering and theft, jumped from this afternoon's express, when passing Woodlands. This, prisoner and another who is serving five years, were in charge of "the principal warder Kearney, who . allowed Christie at his request to go to the lavatory, (but instead of doing so, prisoner opened the door of the carriage and -jumped out. . It is stated' that he landed on his feet, and made off. No time was lost by the prison authorities, oh being- acquainted with ■the. escape in taking- steps to effect recapture, and motor cars were employed to reach the scene without layChristie has escaped no less than four times from the ißurnham Industrial 'School. .! So far there' is no news of his capture.
