Two miners, Messrs Loughlin Keaney, and M. Wheland, have for the last two or three years 'been prospecting in the ranges a>t a place called Otau, about twelve miles out of Papakura, near Auokland. At various times they came across traces- of free gold but could not locate t"he lode from which the metal had ibeen shed. They however, are stated to have found the lode from which stone has ibeen taken, which has given assay returns of gold and silver going to a high figure per ton. It is tated that the lode has been .traced three or four miles, and that it ranges from 60 to lODft in width . : . '
