The only arrivals yesterday were the Waipara and Titan from Hokitika, both with a fair complement of passengers for the races. It appears that the vessel left Akaroa on Saturday night at 11 p.m, and that when off Okain's Bay she carried away her mainmast, and sprang a leak, and the captain was lost overboard. The other hands let go her anchor, and went ashore to report the matter. The vessel was in such a condition that she was expected to sink hourly. A large screw steamer of 2760 tons gross, named the Zealandia, was launched in October, from the yard of Messrs Elder and Co, Govao, She is the firßt vessel of a new line of mail steamers! to run between San JTrancisco, New Zealand, and Sydney.
