THE NEW NELSON WHARF.

It will be remembered that some months ago the Provincial Government were authorised to' raise a loan of L 30 ,000 for the purpose of building a new wharf and a dry dock. Government could not raise the money for some time, but ultimately a gentleman in Nelson offered to procure it. Negotiations were ented into, but after a short time they were broken, off. Mr Millar, the Provincial Engineer, has now prepared a plan for a new wharf,! and it is to be seen at, the Super* intendeht's office. Mr Millar estimates the cost of the wharf he has designed to be .Ji50,000, which, of course, we cannot pay for it. .But we doubt whether even if this sum were forthcoming, it would be sufficient to pay for : the ' very elaborate structure that . Mr Millar thinks should adorn the harbor. of Nelson. The : wharf,, if constructed according to the plan, would be the most picturesque affair of the ( sort in thisj "or indeed, in any other, Colony. , If his notion were adopted, ■we should walk out from the Ship Hotel, about 100 yards 'into the sea on reclaimed land,, and then turn to the.left and walk 300 yards over. a. wooden wharf.
