SUPPOSED MURDWER.
On Saturday last, aboutthe.hour of 10 a.m., and immediately, after the arrival of the steamer 'Victbria at Wagga Wagga wharf ~ji 6m her up trip, the body of a man wjLSjpbserved floating ; on ; Ithe. Murrurii}bi'dgee River, about 200 yards from ithe "wharf. - .Information.; was , given to ,'tKe police,' and Constable Keane immediately, brqught^tbe body >tothe shore. 1 An^inquest was held on the: body 'before Mr Fi A Thompson^ district coroner, of which Mr W^C V) Hunter ( was foreman, of .the jury. The( \rquserapocketa' of the .deceased were turned inside out, and several wounds were on the head. ; The body was. identified by Mr Oliver Tibeaudo, at whose hotel the deceased had been previously staying^ as that of Raymond Layard. It was also identified' by John Martin, a groom^ ih s 'the Australian Hotel, Wagga Wagga, who had 'known the 'deceased -> at TJrana." , This .witness state,d that .de^ ceasied ) was in low spirits ' in consequence of his- proposals to a young lady being rejected. In the waistcoat pocket of the deceased a letter wasioiind, addressed, to him, at a = Wagga, dated from Sauirierez',/street,. Guernsey, 'and signed; '* Your affectionate sister, : Lo ais Layard. # Dr.' Large held the pdst-moii&m ,exarairia? tiononthe body, and deposed : that, he found several wounds on the head, that the. skull was fractured in two places,, and that either" of the" wounds Was, sufficient to cause instantaneous death ; that the body must have been eight or 10 days in the water.
