TiMARxr, June 25. The Timaru derald publishes a long letter from James Smith, in reply to Macassey, which all the three Dunedin papers refused to publish. Also his leader on the state of the bar at Dunedin, which says, mUr alia, "If the charges brought against Macassey be true, he richly deserves to be ignominiously expelled from the profession of the law." Dunedin, June 25. An altercation, which led to exchange of blows, took place, last evening between Robert Gillies, one of the Directors of the Times Company, and James Smith, barrister. The dispute is said to have been caused by the Times refusing to insert a letter written by Smith. Wellington, June 25. The Chief Justice has given a decision which settles the question of the liability of mail coaches to pay toll, by dismissing the appeal case, Young y.Regina.
