PAROA ROAD BOARD SUBSIDY.
[to the editor.]
Sir — It was with deep regret that I noticed in your issue of last week the action that the Paroa Road Board has taken with reference to the General Government subsidy, after being told the great necessity, and by petition, there was for tracks around the centres of population in the district. It shows benighted ignorance of the wants of the district, and it is without a precedent the way they have acted. If that money is spent as proposed, it will be a scandalous misuse of public money, when other parts of the district are so much in want of tracks. And there is another thing I wish to bring under your . notice. : As far as I am aware there has been no meeting of the Board Bince 3rd December, 1874, until the meeting a week ago. I doubt if there is such a body as the Paroa Road ; Board.
I am, &c, Thos. D. Hunter.
June 22, 1876.
[Our correspondent will see there is now a probability of the Board being properly constituted, and no doubt the plan of expenditure already proposed may be amended. — Ed.]
