The p.s. Charles Edward arrived yesterday morning from Westport, and left in the afternoon for Hokitika. The p.s. Her arrival, therefore, may be looked for about the beginning of May. . - The, New- Zealand Snipping Company have sent home orders to the Messrs Palmer, Ship-builders, for the construction of five clipper vessels, each about looo tons. The "Lyttelton Times" of the 29th ult. says :— "Doubts respecting the safety of the ketch Janette were expressed on Saturday, arid it is feared that the vessel, which is 14 days but from Okain's Bay bound for Timaru, has been lost. The weather on the coast, as may be judged from the report of the captain of the barque Speedwell has been very bad. The owner, Mr Thscker, was on board.
