The following account of a fine lake steamer is given by a traveller : — "We went over the Victorian bridge, fnlly.five minutes in almost total darkness, Rouse's Point about 8 am, and then joined the splendid Vermont steamer on Lake Champlain. It is impossible to describe this steamer; her saloon, 200fc long by 18ft broad, carpeted throughout with rich tapestry carpet, immense mirrors at every available spot, massive lamps in electro-plate, hnng from the ceiling, walnut drawing room furniture, setetes, easy chairs, rich satin upholstery. The state rooms, 12ft by 10ft, were even more elegant than the saloon ; heavy double beds, and the softest bedding, white as eider-down ; marble-top wash stands and dressing tables, plate-glass sash windows with rich satin curtains, ceilings paioted in most elaborate design's ; couches and easy chairs most lnxuriantly upholstered and covered ; s some rooms, amber, light blue, and crimson brocaded satin, all matching with curtains and other appointments. I told the captain I should like my wedding tour to begin on board his steamer. He said. 'Many did, and remained a week at times.' The cuisine heTe -was excellent, the taWn elegantly laid out and furnished hot, abundant, and varied. A., fine steamer of 1124 tons, 270 ft. x 36ft, steaming; 15 to 18 knots an hour. Lake Champion is 150 miles long by 13 miles, in some places narrowing down to just the steamer's breadth."
