CHRISTMAS SPORTS.
("to the editor.] Sir— As an intending competitor in the forthcoming Christmas Sports, I can only say that a wise discretion has been exercised in taking them from the Camp Reserve. Running there cannot be had, and this sport has always possessed the greatest attraction to onlookers. Let any one look at thb sand lying upon it, look at the oval to be made, let them look at the broken ground at the back, over which a ring must be made if 'held there, and upon which a man going at his fastest is almost sure to stumble and seriously injure himself if he falls, and then tell ma that the decision arrived at is not a wise one. Sydney Smith spoke about a bishop beiug killed as necessary for reform ; do the Crimpites want a man to be killed to compel a like measure. Last year the minority of the Campites "compelled " the majority and crowed. Probably this year they may do the same, but I hope not, as if they do, I can honestly assure them the entries will be small, and the sport nil. I have no wish for the race- course more than any other place. I am, &c, Pedestrian.
