Auckland, Oct. 2T. Arrived — Schooner Pearl, from Fiji. Sho brings a special despatch announcing , that the cession of the islands ha 9 been effected. The British flag is to be hoisted on the 10th October. - The cession took place on the 30th September at Navoua, situated two miles from Levuka. Maatu, who stands next to the King, has not yet decided aa to what course he will adopt, but it is believed he will offer little or no opposition. Sir Hercules B.obiuson, after the ceremony of cession took place, requested that the Government of the Island be carried on until his return from the Windward Island, where Maatu resides, in the same manner as previously. Great fear is entertained for the safety of the fore-and-aft schooner Ivanhoe, which left Auckland on 26th August for Levuka, and no tidings of her since. She is owned by Cruickshank and Co., insured for LIOOO, and valued at LISOO. DUNEDI.N r , Oct. 27. Some ballasting trucks were left on the Green Island line this morning, and a passenger train ran into them. Nine passengers were seriously injured, and some severely bruised. The fault lay with the locomotive foreman, who was immediately discharged.
