GREYMOUTH AMATEUR BRASS BAND.

[to the editok.] Sir — Having noticed that a correspondent of yonr journal has taken upon himself to designate us as a band of professionals, also stating - that we never turn out except for our own benefit, or for the benefit of some other band r of professionals ; and, further, that when we jail upon the townspeople we always receive liberal support, iri proof of which I may state on behalf of myself and fellow bandsmen that the total amount that was placed to the credit of our Band Fund out of our last entertainment was four pounds eight shillings, (Most liberal support I must acknowledge, considering we only call upon them once a year.) Perhaps your correspondent can inform us what constitutes a Town Band, if paying for the .use of a room to practice in, together with music and other expenses, out of our own pockets, entitles us to the distinction of being called a Town Band, then I must acknowledge that we are : (very much) a Town Band. Again we most strenuously deny the imputation of being professionals ; in fact, instead of making anything by belonging to the Band, every member is called upon'every month to pay his share of expense of keeping the Band up, and further, I may say we are always ready and willing to turn out on any public or charitable occasion, as we have hitherto done. Having explained, 1 hope, to the satisfaction or yonr correspondent, X should recommend him, if he particularly wishes to soothe his savage breast, to purchase a barrel ' organ with tunes ready made. | By inserting the above you will confer a favor on the whole Band, and more particularly on ' Yours, &c, Big Drum.
