With regard to yesterday's election of the Education School Committee, we have received a number of inquiries as to the constitution and powers of the Central Board, in whose hands the working out of the details of the Act really lies. The Central Board, the body that will really possess the lion's share of power and responsibility, ia connection with the Act, must be elected on or before the sth November each year, each of the Local Committees choosing from amongst themselves one representative at the Central Board, and the Superintendent has authority to appoint one of the membera of the Executive also to a seat. On the above points, and also in reference to the tax to be paid by householders, some misapprehension prevails ; in lieu of answering separate questions on them, we repeat some of the leading features. On all tenements of the annual value of LlO, or less, a tax of ten shillings will be collected ; on those exceeding £10, and not exceeding LSO, i one pound ; and over LSO in annual value, the sum of LI 10s will be charged. Parents of all children between five and fourteen years will pay for each an additional school rate of five shillings.
