AHAURA LOCAL REVENUES BOARD.
A meeting was held on the Ist September. Present : Messrs Jones, Alcorn, Cunningham, and Reid. Mr Drennan's case, in reference to a wing-dam in Nelson Creek, was postponed until the Provincial Engineer report on the same. It was proposed by Mr Alcorn — "That this Board declines to continue in office under the conditions laid down in the Provincial Secretary's letter, dated 17th August ; and have to request that the Government will place us in funds to pay off liabilities, and allow us to resign as a body." Seconded by Mr Jones, and carried. The letter to which this motion refers is as follows : — " "Superintendent's Office, Nelson, " 17th August, 1874. "Sir— The Government have given the subject of grants to Local Revenues Boards their careful consideration with special reference to the present state of Provincial Revenue and the important question of the maintenance of the main lines of road, and have arrived at the following conclusions, which the Government trust will receive the approval of the Board : — l. That the services of Mr Dobson, Chief Surveyor aud Provincial Engineer, be offered to the several Boards as Consulting Surveyor for the current year (under section 32 of Local Revenues Act) free of charge to them. 2. Upon the Boards accepting the above offer and appointing Mr Dobson Consulting Surveyor, the Government will provide them with sufficient funds during the current year, within the amounts available for each district, to carry out such maintenance contracts as Mr Dobsoo, as Consulting Surveyor, may approve. 3. That as a condition of the above, each Board should undertake to provide, during tha current year, their own Overseer and Secretary out of rates. 4. That in the event of the maintenance contracts not absorbing the whole amounts available in any district, the balance will be handed over to the Board in such district as soon as the Provincial revenue will admit. The sum of L3OO has this day been remitted to Mr Willis for payment, &c. The balance of the vote for the Ahaura Local Revenue is L 1509 Bs. " I have the honor, &c, "(Signed) War. Rout, " .Pro Provincial Secretary. 0 No accounts were passed for payment except those for No Town Road, amounting to L 26. Mr Jones tendered his resignation as Chairman and a member of the Board. Mr Aicokn moved- " That Mr Jones's resignation be not accepted." Seconded by Mr Cunningham. After some discussion Mr Jones withdrew his resignation. The meeting adjourned until the 29th September.
