GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
[ANGLO-AUSTRALIAN PRESS TELEGRAPH AGENCY.] HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Wellington, Aug. 31. Parliament was prorogued at three ©'clock by the Governor. Twenty-four members were present. There were very few visitors, the day being wet. In the House, Mr Yogel announced that Mr Russel goes to Sydney to rearrange with New South Wales regarding the Californian contract. In reply to Mr Harrison Mr Yogel said the Government did not intend to subsidise a Colonial Exhibition. They might contribute if the matter was taken up as a private enterprise. On members entering from the Legislative Council, the hon. Speaker Sir Dillon Bell said the members of the House of Representatives had learned with regret of his Excellency's resignation of his high office.
