The Eastern question would seem to have assumed a new phase. Hitherto it has been associated with the -'policy of extension known to prevail at St. Petersburg, but it would now appear that difficulties are likely to arise between the Porte and Egypt. If rumor is to be believed; the Minister of Germany has recently had frequent conferences at the Italian Foreign Office. It is rumored that the object 6f these conferences is to induce Italy to come to an agreeinerit with Germany, Russia, and Great Britain i. with regard to such Eastern complications as may arise out of the difficulties of the Porte and Egypt. Can the Khedrive be. contemplating thro wing; off the bonds" which bind him to the Porte, and can Great Britain be a party; to what amounts to rebellion 1 Such a " complication "a^ is here referred to would undoubtedly lead to serious "complications" all over the Continent, and involve us in some trouble 1 .
