[ANGIiO-ATTSTEALIAir PRESS TELEGRAPH AGENCY.] Grahamestown, Aug. 22. A crowded meeting, held last night, approved of the resolutions passed by the General Assembly for the abolition of the Northern Provinces It advocated the abolition of the Southern Provinces as well, and suggested that an equitable and well devised scheme for the readjustment of representatives be passed by the Assembly, and that copies of the resolutions be forwarded to the Speakers of both Houses and to the Premier. Auckland, Aug. 22.

I One thousand persons were present at the Choral Hall last night ao the meeting to consider Mr Vogel's resolutions. Nearly all the leading men of the city were present. The Mayor presided. The following resolutions were carried_ amid loud uiieerlng : — " That ib is the opinion of this meeting that Mr Vogel's resolution for abolishing the Provinces of the North, while confiiming some of those in the South, are unjust and impolitic ; and that in the opinion of this meeting, the time has arrived when, for the good Government and credit of the Colony, the Provincial system should be abolished, and the land revenue income become Colonial revenue." The announcement of the passing of Mr Vogel's resolutions in Wellington was read while Mr Firth was moving the first resolution, and the announcement was received with hisses. It was determined to proceed with the business as intended, and jit was suggested that. the formation of a Reform Association, with the object of forming committees throughout the Colony, to agitate by addresses, pamphlets, and influence of elections, the main object being to abolish all Provinces. Captain Daldy denounced as an iuoult the offer of L 25,000 by Mr Yogel, while the Provinae contributed a quarter of a million, which could not be expended. Messrs M'Millan, Barton, Ireland, Lusk, and others spoke. Dunediij-, Aug. 22. A great fire occurred this morning at four o'clock. Guthrie and Larnach's sawmills, Haworth's store and the Spanish restaurant were destroyed. The Immigration barracks narrowly escaped. The .loss is estimated at L 35,000, Larnach is heavily insured. The fire is supposed to have originated from the furnace.
