« [ANGLO- AUSTRALIAN PRESS TELEGRAPH AGENCY.] Invercargill, Aug. 15. A public meeting is convened for thren o'clock to-day, with the view of giving expression to public opinion in reference to the assertion made by Mr Bell, when giving evidence before the Waste Lands Committee in Wellington that he opposed the "?ale on deferred payments on behalf of the runholders. Only eight persons attended the meeting, which was postponed till Monday night. Wellington, Aug. 15. Sailed — Enterprise, brigantine, for Hokitika. New Plymouth, Aug. 15. The abolition of the Provinces is likely to be popular here, provided the land fund is spent in the district. Auckland, Aug. 15. The mail steamer Cyphrenes has arrived from Kandavau, and will await the arrival of the Tartar, and convey the inward mails to Sydney. She has brought no later news. The steamer Mikado arrived at Kandavau on the Bth, and sailed for San Francisco on the 10th.
